I am a Registered Social Worker with 28 years’ child and adolescent mental health experience and practice in the Guelph and rural Wellington Community. I am an Early Childhood Educator who went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Development Studies from Renison College and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. I am currently completing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Art Therapy with the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy and expecting to graduate by end of 2020. I’ve devoted my working and academic career to seeking and applying best practices in the field of clinical social work, parent-chid relationship and art therapy.

About Me

My interest in parent-infant and parent-child relationships has led me to become a reliable coder of both Infant and Preschool Strange Situation, Attachment Focused Coding System for Story Stems (AFCS) and Friend and Family Interview. I have received certification in Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch Up, Child and Parent Psychotherapy, Circle of Security Parenting and Connect Parenting. More recently I have developed an interest in Mentalization-based Therapy and received training in Mentalization-based Treatment for Parents: Reflective Parenting, a group modality aimed at increasing parental reflective skills.

The use of the art media in clinical practice has been of personal interest since my clinical career’s early beginnings. Art Therapy is adding to my practice the ability to reach out to children and teens in a non-verbal way, allowing them to discover their creative self and to express and give essence to what words sometimes cannot say. Art Therapy with infants and toddlers provides opportunities for parents to closely bond with their children in a context that is creative, fun filled and source of attuned connection.
